  1. Measure from the center of the main bearing journal to the center of the rod bearing journal, times that by two.


  2. If the engine is still assembled, one of the easiest and most accurate methods for measuring crankshaft stroke is by placing a dial indicator on the deck surface and measuring piston travel.  You can also measure crank throw out of the engine using a crankshaft stroke gauge if you can find one.  Easiest yet, if it's a GM production crank, look up the casting number to see what engine it came out of.

  3. Measure from the center of the main brng journal to the center of the wrist pin journal, DIVIDE that measurement by 2. Or, if the pistons and crank are in the block, pull the head off one side and measure the stroke by cranking the engine by hand. Bring the piston to the top of the stroke, mark it, then crank it to the bottom, get the tape out and measure it

  4. look it up on wikipedia, the info is there, my dads truck has a '92 350small block (5.7L), and i found out it has a 3.85 stroke, and a 4 inch bore
