I have high speed internet connection with an external modem. Some how all 3 of my computers have been struck by lightning and blown the ethernet port or card. So I bought a wireless router to hook this up. Do I have to still plug into the ethernet port on the computer to run the wireless router? Also can someone point me in the right direction on setting up a new internet connection on my computer. Or should I just check on having someone do this for me???

  1. I am not sure wether you want to hook to the internett or set a connection to your network so I tried to give you answers to both.

You use usually have one computer hardwired to the network but you don't have to. I would statr by hardwiring one initially, get my router set up and my other 2 computerrs connected and working then pop the wires and set the first one up wireless. I can't get specific since I don't know the brand of the router but most of them cone with pretty good instructions or you can get hepl at their web site.

In Vista you can use the Connect to the Internet wizard ti guide you through the steps of setting up an Internet connection.

    --------------

To manually add a wireless computer running Windows Vista:

    Log on to the computer.

Click the Start button ‌, and then click Connect To.

Choose the wireless network from the list that appears, and then click Connect.

Type the network security key or passphrase if you are asked to do so, and then click OK.

You will see a confirmation message when you are connected to the network.

To confirm that you added the computer, do the following:

    Click to open Network.

You should see icons for the computer you added and for the other computers and devices that are part of the network.

  2. if you want your PC to be wireless, you either a wireless card installed in a slot on the motherboard, or a USB wireless adapter on the pc.  Either buy wireless cards or new NIC cards and good luck
