Hi, I have my own ironing business, i collect and deliver the clothes and i have ladies who iron it for me. We are busy but at the mo i am being crippled by petrol and diesel prices and have no alternative than to up rates - maybe by 5p, 10p here and there - as we charge per item. I am trying to draft a letter but finding it so difficult.. how do i tell customers that i am sorry but have no alternative than to increase rates due to increase in fuel, coat hanger costs etc.. without loosing them?????? please help!

  1. Agreed with the other two answers. I'd also add that "fortunately, we've been able to limit these increases to (5p, 10p, whatever)"

  2. Post a sign - give them two weeks notice -

    Dear Patrons,

Due to the increasing cost of energy, we regret

that our prices will also be increasing in order to pay

the bills.  Thank you for your understanding and

continued patronage.  We value your business.

  3. Maybe, add something in the letter stating that "Hopefully, this is a temporary solution and our company is doing everything possible to try and keep our prices affordable.  We appreciate your business and are open to any suggestions".  Just giving  people a chance to provide input might keep them coming to your business. Especially, in business where customer's no longer feel "the customer is always right".(Not implying you just business in general)  So, just add a personal touch and appeal to their emotions. Hope that helps!!

  4. I'd just inform customers so there won't be any surprises about the costs of the goods/services. A little bit of diplomacy goes a long way in these situations as well.
