HOW DO YOU GET THIS EFFECT ON PICTURES...?

Question

where the whole picture is black and white except for one object.

example:

someone is holding a rose in a photo.

they are black and white but the rose is red.

please help,

convert your picture to black and white, throw a mask over it, and then paint over the rose to reveal color. Smae process in ps or gimp.

DEPENDS ON THE PROGRAM, but generally you select what you want to leave in color, invert the selection, convert this new selection to black and white.  

Some people suggest creating a new layer, converting that layer to black-and-white, then erasing out the bits you want to expose the underlying color layer.  

Either way.

for photoshop elements you start with the color digital file

Open the photo in elements

Duplicate the background layer

Use the lasso tool to select the person in the picture or the part of the picture you want to be stay in color ( you may be able to use the magic selections tool,brush instead, if you are using the magic selector brush just paint a squiggly line around the inside of what you want to select )

Once you have selected the area go to the select menu and choose invers, now everything you did not select is selected

go to the ehance menu - adjust color and choose remove color

Deselect the area by pressing ctr-D

If your selection is not what you want delete the background copy and start over from the step where you created it

Save under a different file name

I have a canon powershot A710 IS and it has a color highlight feature on it, or something like that.

so i turn the k**b to SCN, then press the buttons till color somethin comes up and it only asks for one color. then i take the pic.

Adobe Photoshop (it's the one that I use) is a software that can produce that effect on pictures. You just need to select the object you want to make black and white.
