  1. I'd look for a new job. If you're a nail tech you should be able to find a job anywhere. I wouldn't go to work if I wasn't getting paid for it. That's not fair.

  2. Depends on who the family member was and if you had appointments booked. I don't think they can legally force you to attend a meeting and not pay you for it. I know they can't in California. Don't know about your state. Look into it.

  3. just sit back and bear through it. if it gets to be too much, its time to find another job (but get the other job and make sure you like it and get a good pay and flexible hours before you switch. you don't want to make it worse on yourself than it already is!)

    good luck!!!

  4. Since you are new try to stick it out...I have been in the game a long time and when you are the new kid on the block, it's open season on you.  I have worked at an office 14 years and hate every day I work...I am talked about, back stabbed, snubbed, ridiculed, and treated really bad most times but I can't afford to quit.  If it doesn't get better after a few months then find work else where because  life is too short to be treated poorly by your co workers.  With the economy as bad as it is...it is going to be tough  Good luck

  5. No, do not stick it out; I went through h**l working with all women a couple of years ago and I would rather die than go through that again; every weekend I couldn't enjoy it becuase when Sunday rolled around I kenw it was a matter of hours before I had to go in again and be subjected to verbal harassment and abuse. NO job is worth that, find another job at another place where the people treat you well.

  6. 1.)  You should not go to the meeting if it is off of the clock because it is illegal and unethical.  It's like the seat belt law, it's there to protect you and make sure you are getting paid while you are at work.  You could certainly report the company to the Department of Labor or your local and state workforce commissions.

2.)  Your company has to do business whether you have a sick kid, parent, or whoever.  You may have rights under the http://FMLA.gov Family Medical Leave Act to take off, but if you do not qualify for an excused absence under the law's criteria, you are obligated to be at work as scheduled.

  7. Stick it out only until you FIND A NEW JOB.  If it's bad now, it will get worse later on.

Do it quickly so that you don't need to use these 'people' as a reference.

  8. If there are other jobs available in your field, look around.  I've worked in restaurants and stores where there were meetings and the people who weren't actually working had to come in on their own time.  It's annoying and a pain, but not that big a deal.  If that's something that's done in your business, you'll probably just have to tolerate it.  Consider if the amount of money you make there is worth the amount of grief you suffer.  That will tell you if you need a new job or not.

  9. Stick it out for now and see how it goes. You're not a prisoner there, but most times when starting a new job it's a bit uncomfortable the first few days. Also new people often get treated a bit mean to see if they can take  a bit of pressure or if they run away crying.

Sometimes company meetings are off the clock, but that's usually small places that have few resources or profits. If they ask you to do a lot of stuff in your own time, then it's not a good sign.

  10. find a new job...all that is SO not worth it, your family comes first
