HOW DOES VOLVO S-80 AND XC-70 COMPARE AGAINST ITS COMPETITION?

First off, let me say that I am a staunch Volvo lover. I have one that I absolutely love each time I get into it.

But, the S-80 is a dated design. It looks almost exactly as it did when it came out. It is too heavy to be a truly sporty performer. All of the safety equipment make it a very heavy car for the available power. There are other cars on the market with better performance numbers that are just about as safe in its price range.

The new XC-70 model is larger than the older model. The previous model was a station wagon that had been given it Wheaties. The current model has been enlarged and given a few upgrades. It is closer to an SUV than a wagon. There are a lot of SUVs in its price range, many models to choose from. The XC-70 is more practical in that you get the AWD, but you don't have the excess of a full sized SUV. Gas mileage is on par with most vehicles of its size, certainly not a sipper, but not exactly a guzzler either. It is offered with a heart-beat sensor alarm that will warn you if there is someone in your car before you get into it.

I love Volvos and will probably get another as soon as I am in the market again. I will look at the XC-70 or the new XC-60 that will be coming out soon. I'd skip over the S-80 until they do some overhauling of the design.

what competition? to  whom were you thinking of, because as  true Volvoer No Comp. Esp. for the XC-70 hands down top of the line.
