The best way to ventilate the attic is with ridge vents, no moving parts!

Biggest problems I see:

- They are underpowered

- Attic fans are effective when run overnight, when it it very cool outside. No sun at night.

my attic is connected to my bedroom and we've had ridge vents for years and my room as been super hot all summer long

we got an attic solar fan, and now it's the same temperature as the rest of the house

They can be very effective assuming you get the proper size and a quality constructed one.

There not cheap but will save you $ in the long run. Biggest reason to install one is there's no risk of a fire which happen more than you know as a result of an over heated electric attic fan. Their quiet, pretty easy to install

Biggest drawback is if you have trees that block the sun.
