  1. You might get a more technical answer if you ask this question in the physics, chemistry or engineering forum.  

    No doubt it would have consumed a lot of gas which isn't very good for the environment!

  3. so wasteful; one tradition we could really do without especially in this day and age of environmental concerns. particularly china with its smog problems. like if there was no torch or fiery cauldron does that mean olympics can't take place? its funny they make such a big deal about the torch not ever being allowed to go out
