  1. *Sigh*...it doesn't matter how much you or your GF make....both of you are required by law to support that child......support money is for food, clothing and to help maintain a shelter...I don't know where she lives but 48,000.00 a year is a modest income......if it irks you THAT much, ask that the courts put in how much she has to contribute to the child's care....if getting it in writing makes you feel better..

  2. It is hard to gauge without more information such the state you are in. What you need to do is check the county the mother lives in and they usually have a scale you can get an idea from.

  3. It really does depend on the state you are in, I don't think they can use your current girlfriend's income(wasn't clear on that) in figuring out how much you have to pay. If you go to the state's website there should be self help link where you can put all of your information and ex's info into and it should give you a calculation.

  4. only your income is taken into consideration for child support purposes, not your ex's income and not your current GFs income.

it would depend on what state you lived in and how many children you were paying for.

    If you were in Texas:

    1 child  20%

    2 children 25%

    3 chldren  30%

    4 children  35%

    5 children 40%

6 or more children  a minimum of 40%, could be more

do a search for "child support your state"  or visit your state's attorney general's website.  Child support info will be there.

  5. What your girlfriend makes usually doesn't come into consideration much.  The formula just depends on what you make.  It depends on what you and the child's mother make combined.  There are on-line calculators where you can get a good idea of how much it will be.  Be prepared to pay much more than it takes to raise a child.  And if the child is with you in the summer, get it into the paperwork that if the mother doesn't follow through on her end of visitation during the summer, that you can be reimbursed.  Also try to get it that you can claim the child on your taxes, after all you'll be the one paying through the nose for the child.  There may also be spousal support that you may have to pay.  The courts can take as much as 45% of your income.  Men get screwed.  There's no way around it.  It's frustrating to see the mother spend the money on everything but the child, but that's our child support system and it's too big to fight.  Men are discriminated against in a huge way in this country.
