HOW THICK SHOULD GLUE BE AND SHOULD WOOD STRIPS BE SPACED?

Restoring roll top desk. Need instructions on how thick to apply glue and if wood strips should have a small space in between them or close together.

you should be using contact cement on a tambour door...brush it on both surfaces and wait the prescribed time...put your slats close together...
