  1. cats usually don't "mark" in this fashion. Peeing outside the litter box can sometimes indicate an infection. If there is any pain she will associate the litter box with the pain and try to eliminate somewhere else. I would take her to the vet to eliminate this.

If that is not the case then the only thing I can think of is a behavioral problem. Try correcting her by placing her back in her litter box when she does this. Good Luck!

  2. Female housecats don't usually mark their territories. Be sure that the litterbox is always clean (one of my cats will pee on the floor if it's too dirty for her tastes), and that she doesn't have any health problems--cats who have severe infestations of worms, for example, may start relieving themselves outside of the litterbox, because they don't feel good.

The fact that that particular spot now smells like droppings is encouraging to her to keep using it, because it "smells right". In order to discourage this behavior, I suggest you buy an odor removing spray made specifically for pet odors; some of these have enzymes in them, which is excellent because it really takes away the little p**p particles that are releasing the odor. Then put something nasty there, like orange peels or vinegar, to make the place seem revolting to her. Thirdly, it will help if you also place the cat litter box near to that spot, even on top of it if necessary; over time, as she has become accustomed to using it, you can gradually edge it farther and farther away, and into wherever part of the house you want it to be. If she returns to going in the hallway after the litter box isn't there anymore, place the litter back on/near the spot and repeat the process.
