Alcohol is classified as a depressant, the amount of alcohol consumed determines the type of effects. Most people drink for the stimulant effect, such as a beer or glass of wine taken to ''loosen up''. But if a person consumes more than the body can handle, they then experience alcohol's depressant effect, this causes them to lose control causing damages within them and outside them towards other people. Here are ways to stop drinking alcohol:
I. MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT
Let people know that you want to quit drinking, like your family and friends, so that they can help you stay focus and prevent any alcohol around you.
II. AVOID TEMPTATION
It is not easy to quit drinking, therefore one requires great discipline to avoid it at all cost, for example, stay away from bars or restaurants that sell alcohol, during the times you know you would be drinking, fill it with other activities like going for basketball, or football or dance whatever that keeps you away from drinking and keeps you active.
III. GIVE UP GRADUALLY
Reducing the amount you drink is more effective than cutting down completely. if you use to drink for 7 days a week, you can reduce it to 4 days a week and hold on to that for a week or more and move to drinking 3 times a week, with time you will get to improve.

It is Important to note that its not easy to gravitate towards a new lifestyle, setting short term goals can help you achieve this lifstyle; for example if you stay alcohol free for a week,then alcohol free for a month . It is also important to reward yourself on brownie points after completing a task to motivate you towards other short term goals like saving up the money you intend to use for alcohol and spending it on another treat.
