Question:

HOW? WHO? WHERE? SHOULD I MARKET MY NEW BIZ?

I am offering my services as a personal shopper. I will run your errands. Grocery shopping, delivering/picking up packages/dry cleaning. I will basically be a part time personal assistant. I will do all the things you have no time for. I want to let people know that they don't have to do it all themselves. Go ahead spend more time with the family.... I'll take care of gift wrapping this Christmas. Oh you need to pick up a package at the post office but you have to work late and won't make it before they close? Don't worry about it... Would like me to take it by your office or would you like me to drop it off at your home? Need to go to the grocery store but have plans this evening? Give me your list (with alternatives) and I'll put everything away for you. I guess what I want to know is who is my target clientele? How do I hook them? Where do I market? And what is the smartest way to charge for these services?

  1. Target clientele is likely the busy professional.  Could be a single working mother or father (they don't have time to get it all done) but would have to be in the high income range.

Advertise in local papers; Craigslist.  Send out Press Releases to the local media: papers, radio and television - see if you can get one or all of them to pick up the story - good advertising.  Get some business cards and go to a Chamber of Commerce meeting/luncheon (non members can attend; they just pay a higher price for the lunch) - it's a good way to meet your potential customers.  Prepare some flyers and send them out via mail to local doctors, lawyers, etc.

I'd suggest an hourly rate for regular weekly work (e.g. 4 hours per week of running around - make sure you include fuel and transportation in your hourly rate) and if it's more of a one time event (e.g. Xmas decorations or shopping or wrapping) than calculate what your one-time fee should be.  Your rate should be a lot less than your target customer's hourly rate:  so if he/she is a doctor or a dentist and you charge $25 per hour - they probably would think the cost would be worth it.

    Good luck.

  2. You should advertise your business by the help of any advertising agencies like tdiindia.com, which has more than 10 years experience in advertising.
