Complicated situation with a slightly complicated answer.

Lenses are made from specialized glass, specifically stainless glass that has been cut and refined at least twice instead of just pressed.

Lenses have to be extremely well manufactured, specifically to control the most important element of a Digital Camera and that is its optimization for pictures.

In short terms, that means its viewfinder.
