  1. They believe because of ignorance and naivete. By now, science can explain virtually everything, from the origin of Man and Earth, even the Universe, without invoking a "god." But many people just aren't sufficiently informed or educated. They aren't informed about evolution or are more influenced by holy con men who get them to reject it. Another reason for belief is childish naivete. However phony "heaven" may be, people know they're not immortal and WANT to believe that stuff or WANT to think there's a "god" who cares about them. Progress may provide the ultimate solution if the conquest of aging and other problems gives rise to a REAL WORLD paradise.

  2. because its a reason to believe in life, whether god exists or not believing in a higher power is a source of strength and hope for a lot of people. and science isn't infallible either, what we think we 'know' about the world may very well be altered to a point to contradiction by later generations.

  3. You  cannot prove that there is no God, but you cannot prove that there is one either, it is all based on faith. But it takes faith to be an athiest also, faith that there is no god. There are no facts that show God does not exist, alot of science is based on faith, since alot of science is theory, which means that it is not 100%, there are few things in life that are 100%, you just have to take it on faith. I'm not going to tell you you're going to h**l, because I am a Christian, and must think before I speak, I represent love, not hatred. I hope your day is wonderful, and maybe someday you'll find God, but until then : )

  4. The specific details of any religion does seem very difficult to believe, hence the term "faith". When you focus on the miracle of life, it is equally difficult to believe that there isn't one (for me at least). I suppose most people do not want to accept the alternative. I mean, the majority of people on the planet want to believe that there is something better out there some sort of relief from this harsh existence.

  5. its to do with belief not fact. there is no fact behind believing. and besides, not all things can be explained by science and maths and all that stuff.

some people feel better knowing there is a greater being with a plan for them, with a plan for the world, so they dont feel so alone, so useless.

and now u shouldnt criticise those peoples beliefs, if they want to believe then y not let them? is it hurting u? no. is it stopping u living ur life? no. so just leave it alone

  6. I can see no connection between this question and Earth Sciences or Geology.  It might've made more sense to post it on a Religion board, seeing as it's entirely about a matter of faith, and beyond the scope of science.  If you think "the facts" somehow demonstrate either the existence or absence of a deity or deities, then I must either congratulate you on making a staggering breakthrough or conclude you're confidence is entirely faith-based and, thus, unscientific.

  7. God exists because you believe it, no matter how much I explain if you dont believe it then your always have your ready argument to all my justification that truly God exists.

  8. Um... To which facts are you referring? Do you have any links? I would be interested. As for myself, I feel God and the love and guardianship that entails. That does not mean that my life is rosey all the time. Simply that I am watched and loved. Kind of like a parent lovingly watching his/her child on the playground. Many times, we, the kids will get in squirmishes, fall down, etc. And it will seem like the worst thing possible, but a good parent knows when to lend a helping hand (or send someone to lend a hand) and when the child needs to learn from his/her actions and possibly experience hardship. Usually, in my experiece, for longer than I'd like ;). But everything works out in the end; even if it's not quite what I'd hoped for or expected. Is it possible that I've been reeled in by a personal dillusion? Eh, perhaps... But when I have additionally looked around at the wonder of nature and have read a bit of scientific documentation about how slimly earth fits into life supporting parameters (because this could have more easily been a dead rock), then I conclude that someone or something must have created or guided  things into place. Of course, if God doesn't exist and unguided evolution is really it, I'm Really looking forward to advanced dust bunnies picking themselves up and pulling their own weight; the Silly lay-abouts!
