  1. Yahoo has a local section:  http://www.local.yahoo.com

You can search for "utilities assistance", "food banks", etc. in your area.  Check your phone book for agencies that offer services, like the housing authority.

There is a website that can help with some expenses.  You have to submit proof that you really need it.  They have helped people in situations like yours.  http://www.modestneeds.org

Sign up with temp/job placement agencies in your area.  All of them.  Don't be picky about assignments. If you turn down a job, they may not call you again.   I was able to support myself for two years just doing temp assignments.

  2. go to social services and talk to a case worker.  They will help you, especially since you have no income

  3. Social Services and Social Security Admin. are your best bet....to get food, try a food bank.

  4. Do you attend a church?  Most churches have a benevolence fund for emergencies, or talk with a pastor and or small group leader and they can pass on the information to people willing to help you.

Most counties of nonprofit organizations that could help--don't know what part of the country you're located.  You'll need to do some leg work to find out what is available in your area or swallow your pride and ask a friend or relative to help you out.  You may think they won't help but they might surprise you, just be honest about your situation and hopefully, they will understand.

    Good luck

  5. Go to www.secondharvest.org and find the foodbank nearest you.  Call or email and get the name of a food pantry in your area than can help you.   Get several names bec no one place will have all you need and you can prolly visit any one only one time in 1-2 months.   You may also find some churches and other places in your area do a free community supper or lunch at times too.

Look in the phone bookyellow pages or www.switchboard.com  under social service agencies and call all the ones that spund ;ikely to have programs to help...for 7th district opportunity is probably a helping place but jubior'sbaseball league probabl;y isn't.  Also look up the number for United Way in your area which may be under U or may be listed under the city or county name first IE Green County United Way.  Call and see if they have or know of a help referral line at which you can learn about places that help with utilities or rent.   Prolly no one place will do it all but each may do some.If you are still short try Salvation Army, A large Catholic church, A large Baptist church and if still short just start calling all churches - obviously you want to do this from a land line not a cell.

If you were working before you were hospitalized did you have insurance and does it by any chance have a part that covers disability or mised work pay?

More long term help:  If you are able to work now go register for work at the state labor dept and keep your card they give you as proof of registration.   (that will help with the help sources above too)  While you are there also apply for unemployment benefits.   If you are now able to work and looking for work and have enough quarters of previous work you may very well be eligible for a weekly check for a few weeks.

Then go to the welfare dept aka DFACS aka Social Services or Human Services  and apply for food stamps.   You will need proof of what you earn now, proof that at least 1 adult in home is employed or looking for work and registered with labor dept.   Proof or your utility and rent or mortgage cost,  Proof of your social security number and the SS # for each person in the home.  If you have no funds and no income be sure to make that known in every possible place on the application as well as telling the person you talk with that you need EMERGENCY food stamps bec if that is the case you probably can get stamps (which are no longer stamps but an electronric benefit card) within 5 working days.   If you share a home with someone who is not eligible for food stamps (ie too much income, no ss#, whatever, you may still be eligible the key question is do you prepare and eat your meals separately from them.   If you do you are prolly eligible.

Depending on your state and whether there are children in the home you may have some financial assistance eligibility and some medical assistance eligibility which you can talk with social services about too.

If you expect to be unableto work 2-5 yrs or more you can apply for Social Security Disability but please be aware it takes a long long time like years and there are usually 2-3 turn downs before you get help so it is not an immediate answer.

You may also need to determine what you can live without.   Do you have stuff you could pawn or sell?   Would a friend or relative consider holding the title to your car if you have one and dong a loan based that even if you have to agree to pay some interest it is better than title pawn which is about 25% interest.   Would they maybe let you "pawn"some other possessions to them like the computer and get it back when you can repay.  A close friend or relative might be open to the idea of just plain helping out or lending you a little money on a pay me back when you can basis or maybe need some stuiff done that they can pay you to do.  Many ppl hate to tell family and friends they are having a hard time but you can not eat pride for more than a few meals.

I hope things will be betetr for you soon.
