HOW do YOU calculate THE dimesions OF a SUITCASE???????

Do you add, or multiply???

I'm flying with AirTran and the dimensions of my suitcase are 18.5" x 28"x10"(+2")

It's got an expandable two in pouch that's why it's (+2")
