Question:

HOW to deal with three kids in a SMALL house?!?

We live in a 2 bedroom apartment sized house and have a 4 year old, 2 1/2 year old and a 16 month old with a baby due in November. I do not know how to tolerate this much longer and was wondering how others, if they are in similar circustances deal with it?

We're a single income family, I'm the "homemaker" and my husband has a million excuses why we shouldn't rent and he just does not WANT to buy a house...

I don't know how to put up with this much more... and no, money is never why we can't move, it's always every other "reason". I don't know... again, anyone have any similar situation?

  1. We are in a 1200sq ft house with 3 kids (9,7 and 3) AND 2 dogs (one very large, one medium).  ORGANIZE EVERYTHING!!!  If you buy a toy, donate a toy.  If you buy a new shirt donate an old one.  The less clutter, the easier it is to remain calm.  It is very hard to maintain a clean and organized home in such a small space and I feel your pain!!  Maybe hubby should spend a couple of days in the house alone with the kids while you visit a friend or family!  That's how I got my hubby to agree to buy a bigger home!!  We are now in the process of getting a 2700sqft house!! I am a SAHM too (have been for almost 10yrs), and I can't WAIT to move out of this tiny box of a house!!

  2. Get some loft style beds for the kids so they can play in their rooms.  Can you fix up the basement for more room?  Do you have a garage to use for space as well?  You could put indoor outdoor rugs in there and try to use that as a play area or something.  it's a buyers market right now.  if you have the funds to buy a house, the more bang for your buck... look up houses online and tell your husband to get with the program.

  3. This sounds just like me.  I have a 5 yr old, 2 yr old, and 20 month old.  I am also expecting in Sept.  It can get real crazy sometimes (we have a small 2 bedroom house.  The kids rooms has bunk beds, and we try to make the best out of it.  Hopefully we will find something bigger after this baby.  Sorry I couldn't help but maybe someone will have a good answer that I can use lol.  Good luck.

  4. Get a bunkbed with a bigger bottom. Let the 4 year old be on top, and the toddlers together on the bottom. If you get a futon for the bottom it folds up for more playspace. Just get something durable.

  5. Boy do I know how you feel. I have four kids, ages 10,7,4,and 3. It is literally a nightmare at home. I have a very small 3 bedroom house and the biggest problem I face is the daily clutter of toys and messes. One thing I have done was set up a tv in the kitchen for all the kids to share. I also am a homemaker, although I am a full time college student as well. I also watch my 9 year old nephew while my sister works, and as luck would have it, he has adhd. I suppose the only advice that I could give you is just to hang in there. They won't be little forever. Its a chore raising that many small kids no matter how you look at it. And if you can get organized and stay organized more power to you. Good luck!

  6. Try a mobile home by "contract for deed".

However the way you deal with 3 kids in a small home is the exact way you deal with 3 kids in a large home.

Think about that a while. It is just more cozy in a small home.
