  1. Seriously, get hold of the book 'Bobby Fisher Teaches Chess' and spend a week with it.  I guarantee it'll improve your play.

  2. I'm sorry but practice alone won't do it. I learnt to be a reasonable player (Elo rating 2200) by studying from Chess Books. You can learn a lot fast, and I think that's what you need. Otherwise you will be losing all the time without understanding why. These days there are also Training DVDs available which are also fine, but a well stocked library is the best and cheapest way. I run a school chess club. Those who come in each day and just play don't improve much. Those who attend my weekly coaching sessions do, and the few who get keen enough to borrow books from the school library progress rapidly.

  3. pratase makes perfect

  4. Practice makes perfect.

    Try playing against a computer.

  5. You can also study the game if you can't actually play.  Many websites (including Wikipedia) have information about "classic" openings and defenses, including the strategy behind them.  It may take a little while to learn the notation, but you can then recreate the scenarios yourself and try to learn why certain tactics work or do not.

  6. Practice. I am Chess Master Joey. I have beaten 50 champions of the United States, each champion of each state. Practice, practice, practice, young one. Practice shall make perfect.

  7. You should practise more and more

    watch games of famous players

keep a close look at the moves

    care about following things

    1.attacking

    2.defence

    3.balance between above

You should refer various books for these

  8. practise...

practise online at yahoo chess or with other people, can anyone in your family play chess?

Think about the consequences of each move and the advantages it presents you, then decide which move would be best. Think ahead, knowing your opponents possible moves and counters you can make.

But doing that as a beginner is very difficult and may take forever to make each move unless you practise and gain experience/confidence in the game.

  9. Practice

  10. They have a How To Play Chess For Dummies book out.  I flipped through it and it looked very informative and easy to follow.  I love playing chess, but I never win.  I think I may pick it up...
