recently, my boyfriend is giving up drugs and alcohol. I do not drugs or drink so it is really hard for me to understand what he is going through. But, he has recently tried to keep his distance from me. i always stop him from drinking and smoking and it seems as if his mind views me as an enemy because everything he wants to drink or smoke he gets really mad at me and then we get in a fight and then he leaves and ends up drinking or smoking? What can i do to help?

  1. Is he smoking pot or cigarettes?

  2. you cant do much if he doesnt want to change. it would probably be best in your situation to just leave. ive been at the opposite end of your problem, and i just ended up hating her, even though she was trying to "help." You cant force people to do something they dont want to do

  3. Good luck with this!!

Go to ALANON and get some tools.  They give you help on how to deal with someone that has these problems.  You need to take a stand and stick with it.  Zero tolerance is a start.

If I knew then what I know now, I would kick him to the curb and go after someone that won't sap all your strength.

Think of how much time you waste arguing over something he is going to do.  Life is too short to waste time like that.

You can support him and encourage him, but the bottom line is him.  He has got to be the one to decide how he wants his life to continue.

Oh, and go to counselling to help yourself.  I call it the "lame duck" syndrome...you have to figure out why you have it and how to get rid of it.

A relationship should be fun and easy..this is way too hard.
