  1. I use Kayak.com. They simultaneously search places like cheaptickets.com, delta.com, and so forth. In the event that one of the airline sites has the lowest price, I go there, because the airfair will be about $5 cheaper at, say, delta.com then at cheaptickets.com.

Unfortunately Kayak doesn't link to places like Southwest.com, so then I search those places, too - especially if one of those discount airlines flies to the city I am going. Only way to check those prices is to google the airport you are going to, and then see what airlines fly there.

  2. See http://www.travelbargainsites.com for a list of cheap travel sites.

  3. I bought a ticket from the bay area in Calif. to Mich. for 300.00 in May . That was 200.00 cheaper than any other flights. Go to "cheap tickets.com" . That'll give you a good idea of whats available, and probably the best price your going to get. Very easy to purchase too.

  4. for a great flight deal check out http://www.travelcuse.com. the site is an aggregator which means it searchs other sites and presents you with the best deals available. hope this helps!

  5. Here you go

  6. There are fewer and fewer discounted flights, and there is NO place that consistently has the cheapest flights.

That said, I like two sites, Sidestep.com and kayak.com (they may be the same site now).  They look at all the other web sites and tell you then cheapest of them, then you can buy from the cheapest site.  they're not perfect, but very good.

Note that some low fare carriers, Southwest in particular, do not allow kayak and sidestep to do this.

Also you may check online bucket shops (consolidators) for international tickets - they can be less expensive.  I like flights.com.

Be aware that sometimes you can get the best deal by doing a travelocity air+hotel deal.  I recently got business trips to Ft. worth for several weeks in a row that way, and the total was sometimes cheaper than the airfare!
