Question:

HOw many hours of sleep can a person comfortably live on until bedtime from day to day?

  1. 4 is a rediculous answer. Try for at least 6 or 7 for an average person- preferably 8. I, myself, get about 9 to 10 hours a night.


  2. The healthy answer is 7 or 8 uninterrupted sleep hours

  3. Honestly, it depends on the person.  How much their body needs, their activity level, their diet, etc.

    I can live on 4-5 easily, but of course prefer 7-8.

    Some people I know require 10 or they are exhausted all day.  There isn't one magic number... but 8 is probably the average.

    Usually after 2 to 3 hours you will achieve REM sleep. As long as you've had some uninterrupted REM sleep every day then you'll be fine.

    ADDITIONAL: I am taking my answer from studies which have been done concerning the matter. 4 hours may not seem like enough if you are used to more, but most people would get used to it if they were placed on it and it is all that is needed. Astronauts only sleep for fours every day and they do just fine.
