HP Byron Nelson Championship: Jason Dufner records another PGA Tour win – Golf News
A month earlier, Jason Dufner was struggling for the first ever win of his PGA Tour career. Now, he is the two-time winner and has become the hottest sensation on the Tour.
Last month witnessed him win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with a birdie on the first extra hole in the playoffs.
This time, he won the HP Byron Nelson Championship with a 25-foot birdie on the final hole of the tournament while avoiding another playoff competition.
"I knew we were tied after I hit the tee shot," Dufner said. "I knew if I made birdie that I would win, par would be a playoffs, but the playoffs aren't much fun. My experience in them aren't that great".
Dufner entered the final round with a one-stroke lead over Dicky Pride that he lost early in the round due to a couple of consecutive bogeys on the second and third holes.
However, he bounced back strongly and recorded four birdies through the 10th hole. A bogey on the 11th again took him back to a one-under par score.
Yet, he did not lose hope and continued playing some good shots at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas.
The continuous hard work paid him off in the end when he recorded two more birdies to register a winning score of 11-under par 269.
According to Dufner, he is enjoying the best time of his life as he also got married after his win in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
“You probably couldn't dream it any better than what's been going on here,” he said. “The wedding has been in the works for close to a year so -- I guess I proposed in July of last year, so we know that's been coming around the corner, and there's been a
lot of good golf since then, but to win two events and get married in the span of 22 days, pretty remarkable”.
He has now jumped to the top of the FedEx Cup standing after winning the $1.17 million as prize money from the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
