HP PSC 1410 scanner help.?

Question

Every time i try to scan a picture or something, my computer doesn't respond, and neither does my printer/scanner. The top button, the "check in cartridge" and "check paper" button goes off and I have no idea why.

This computer is fairly new, so what could it be?
