Recently my hard drive crashed on my new laptop computer runing Windows Vista. Model # DV-6628us.I believe the error number I recieved diagnosing it has a hard drive failure was 900006 but that may not be it. From what I understand it was some piece having something to do with
power going to the hard drive. Anyway, HP sent me a new hard drive to exchange with the bad one. I have 15 days and 7 remaining to return the old one to HP before I am charged. I cannot boot into Windows normally. I can however boot into Windows through safe mode. My delimma is I need to backup all of my data including 4 user profiles, atleast that many pst files out of both Windows mail and Outlook, a couple of thousand jpeg images and half as many documents. What I am experiencing is that no backup programs or functions in Vista are working while in safe mode, and the dvd drive isnt working either in safe mode. I am however able to copy and paste files to an external hard drive but with so many files spread out over the computer, that has proven its challenges itself. However you cannot copy and paste a pst file particularly in Outlook without exporting it to a file...atleast as far as I know. I am aware that I could switch out the hard drives and take the old one to a retailer like GeekSquad and they could perform a complete backup on the old hard drive. However I would prefer to do and get it done quickly myself as well as learn the process on doing so but the main issue is I am affraid due to the problems with the drive that once I pull it, it will erase all of my data. So I felt better about backing up the data while the drive is in the computer still. Do you have any recommendations or steps to provide me on backing this stuff up while in safe mode? Or any other sugestions?
