HP races sizzle at Pelaw Grange
The Pelaw Grange Greyhound Stadium in County Durham was home to some exciting HP-grade racing action this morning. The action-packed 10-race card left greyhound racing fans on the edges of their seats, and the results did not disappoint.
The day got off to great start with a 590m race that was held at 11:30. Tursdale Jake, the favourite coming into this race, delivered a big victory, much to the delight of racing rans. Odds makers staked him with 5-4 odds to win to race, and win it he did in 36.56 seconds. Coming out of trap one, he always led, which allowed him to cruise to an easy victory.
In second place was Farloe Nail (3-1). Farloe Nail moved slowly away from the leader, and ended the race in 36.98, which was 5¼ lengths behind Tursdale Jake. The number three spot went to Tictac Zippy (2-1), who zipped around the track and finished only a neck behind second place in 37.00.
Rounding out the five-dog pack were Droumeragh Frank (4-1, fourth place), and Galgo Feliz (5-1, fifth place). Droumeragh Frank finished a head behind third place in 37.02, while Galgo Feliz was 1½ lengths behind fourth with a time of 37.14.
The magic number of the 11:48 435m race was 5-2, with four of the five competitors sharing the same odds. The only exception was 4-5 favourite Mill Tia, but despite those odds, she placed second. Tursdale Wee May was this race’s winner, laying claim on the victory with a superb finishing time of 26.53. Leading the run in out of trap two, Tursdale Wee May ran a great race overall.
One length behind Mill Tia was third-place finisher Creaking Hawk, who finished the race in 26.77.
Finishing the race in 27.07 was Tursdale Lexi. She claimed fourth place, and was 3¾ lengths behind the third position. Bringing up the rear was Keepers Gem. His race was anything but a gem, as he finished one length behind Tursdale Lexi in 27.15 for last place.
Next on the card at 12:06 was another 435m race. This one featured six dogs, and a 2-1 favourite in Sparta Pam. However, Sparta Pam did not live up to her billing, as she finished in last place. Miss Wansbeck (3-1) was this race’s winner, finishing with a time 26.85. She held an early pace coming out of trap one, and led the run up to the finish line.
At 1½ lengths behind Miss Wansbeck was Cute Lisa (4-1), who overcame a slightly bumped start to take second place in 26.97. Riverview Mo (3-1) also had a slightly bumped start, but managed to finish the race in third place with a time of 27.17. This put him 2½ lengths behind Cute Lisa.
Roscoes Jenga (5-2) crowded second, and pulled off a fourth-place finish in 27.23, which was only ¾ lengths behind the third-place finisher. Tursdale Lucky (5-2) was anything but lucky today, as he finished two lengths behind Roscoes Jenga to claim the fifth spot in 27.39. Last place went to pre-race favourite Sparta Pam, whose 27.55 finish put her 2 lengths behind Tursdale Lucky.
There will be more exciting HP racing action at the Pelaw Grange Greyhound Stadium this week. The next 10-race cards will be held on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, starting at 19:30. Pre-race trials will be held one hour prior at 18:30.
