HPT looking forward to make changes in coaching and training structure after Olympic Games
The High Performance Team (HPT) that was formed by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) is looking forward to make some changes in the training and coaching structure of Malaysia after 2012 Olympic Games.
Wong Ah Jit, a member of HPT expressed that there are a few areas in the training and coaching department that need a few changes to improve the overall standard of badminton in the country.
However, no changes can be made in the training and coaching structure because Olympics preparations are in progress and all coaches and players will continue working according to the existing structure until Olympics.
Any changes at the present moment can disturb the preparation of players. The long term plan for the improvement of shuttlers will be introduced after Olympic Games.
Ah Jit said that they will be observing everything during the preparation and performances of shuttlers before Olympics and will complete their home work to make the structure better after the mega event.
He said, “The next six months will give us time to strengthen the Olympic-bound team’s preparations. Along the way, we will be able to look at the big picture on what is required to improve the current set-up.”
However, he also made it clear that there is no need to change the whole structure as only a few things will be improved to put the progress of the game back on track.
He also said that the governing body is aware that people are getting disappointed with the poor performance of shuttlers but he assured that after Olympic Games, everything will be in proper order.
He said, “We don’t need a major revamp. What we need is to put right the procedure of doing things. The current cycle will end with the London Games and, by then, we will have the necessary information to make the required changes to improve things.”
However, Ah Jit also made it clear that getting an overnight success will certainly be out of question but he assured that they are going in the right direction and will bring the lost status of badminton back to Malaysia by following the long-term plan
after Olympics.
