I'm residing at Delhi in a rental accommodation and am currently claiming the HRA for that but wanted to know if I can also get HRA exemption for the rent which I'm paying for my parents residence at another city in addition to the one which I am already enjoying.

  1. No.

Also the HRA must be paid to you by your employer.

  2. You do not claim HRA. It is a part of your salary paid by your employer. The amount you receive as HRA is eligible for exemption on the following basis:

H.R.A.  Least of the following is deductible :

    1. Residence in metro - 50% of salary , elsewhere - 40%.

    2. Actual  H.R.A. received.

    3. Excess of rent paid over 10% of salary.
