HRT boss Colin Kolles says Red Bull is ahead but you never know what will happen – Formula 1 Update
Hispania Racing Team’s (HRT) boss, Colin Kolles, has stated that the prospects of the 2011 season can change drastically for the top team, Red Bull Racing. Kolles's team is placed at the bottom of the 2011 Formula 1 season’s constructors’ Championship.
Kolles further added that his team’s goal will be to beat the closest running team, Virgin Racing.
HRT had a horrible start to the 2011 season, which was worse than their debut season in 2010. Right from the pre-season testing sessions, HRT were well out of the competition even against the lower ranked teams like Virgin and Lotus.
The 2011 season kicked-off in Australia and HRT were disqualified from the race because both of their drivers, Narain Karthikeyan and Vitantonio Liuzzi, failed to put a lap time within 107 percent of the pole sitter, Sebastian Vettel.
Kolles still thinks that HRT can catch up with the nearest running team, Virgin and said, “I believe that the Turkish GP should see Hispania Racing take the next step. Our aim for the weekend is to close the gap with respect to our closest competitors in
qualifying and fight for positions in the race.”
Kolles predicted that some of the top ranked teams will also get the better of Red Bull, who are running far ahead of the pecking order. Kolles added, “Hispania Racing has made significant progress since the start of the season, we are working very hard
to improve and definitely will improve. I think that, due to the tyre situation, we should see a very close race, anything is possible. In terms of speed.”
HRT team is yet to land in the top ten positions in the 22 races they have contested. Their performance has not gone unnoticed as Formula 1 Supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, has said that HRT will be history after the 2011 season.
Nevertheless, Kolles stated that some upgrades are ready for the Turkish Grand Prix which includes aerodynamic and mechanical updates.
HRT are taking Formula 1 step by step for now, with their first target being their closest rival, Virgin. Kolles' statement about the Red Bull Racing team was maybe for the McLaren and Ferrari team, who are running for top positions.
