HRT confirm Daniel Ricciardo will race in place of Karthikeyan at upcoming British GP – Formula 1
Hispania Racing Team has confirmed that Toro Rosso reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo will race in place of Narain Karthikeyan at the upcoming British Grand Prix scheduled to be held on July 10, 2011 at the Silverstone circuit.
Toro Rosso brought Ricciardo to the mainstream in 2010 as their test driver.
HRT have announced that the Australian driver Ricciardo will make his debut in Formula 1 racing in one of their cars at the Silverstone race circuit.
The Former F1 Renault 3.5 Series driver is quite happy on getting his first chance in the top tier of motorsports.
He told the media and added that he will try his best to make a good debut in Formula 1 racing. He also said that he is very excited to drive at the Silverstone racetrack. In addition, he mentioned that it will be a new challenge for him at the circuit.
However, he is ready to put all of his efforts for a new team at the upcoming British Grand Prix.
The 22-year-old driver said, “It's a dream come true for me - for the first time on an F1 starting grid! I had to pinch myself a couple of times to be sure that it's real. I'm excited and can hardly wait to drive at Silverstone. It's a new challenge, a new
experience, a new team, but I'm ready and will give of my best in any event.”
Ricciardo will drive in Karthikeyan’s seat alongside Vitantonio Liuzzi in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season but Karthikeyan will take part at his home race, which will be held in Delhi on October 30, 2011.
Recently, there were rumours that Toro Rosso were planning to give a chance to Ricciardo for the remaining season. Before the start of the 2011 season, the team announced that if their drivers Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari are unable to give positive
results to the team in the season, then they will have to give a chance to Ricciardo for the remaining races.
The Hispania Team chairman Jose Ramon Carabante is happy with the deal. He is sure that the Australian will perform well for them and give positive results.
He added, “This agreement is a reward for all the hard work Hispania Racing has shown since we started in Formula 1 last year. We're proud that the Formula 1 world champion team has trusted us in their effort of developing their drivers. Let's hope that
this is just the start of a fruitful relationship.”
The team’s performance in the ongoing season is quite poor. Let’s see how Ricciardo manages his race in the upcoming race weekends with a new team.
