HRT confirm new car will be revelation at the final pre-season test session – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team joined the sport in 2010 and it seems that they were unable to prove anything as they were unable to secure a single point throughout the season.
However, the team has its hopes high for the 2011 Formula 1 season which is expected to begin on March 13, 2011 in Bahrain. Unlike most of the teams, HRT decided to reveal their new car at the final pre-season test session which is expected to take place
in Bahrain before the first race.
HRT team principal Colin Kolles announced that their new car will be ready until the test session and he believes that the team fans will not be disappointed.
“The 2010 car will be utilised at the first tests, and as soon as the 2011 car is ready we will implement it. The plan is to use the 2011 car at the Bahrain test. It will be a completely new car and will be called F111. It is being made by Hispania Racing
with several groups of engineers,” said Colin.
The team announced some time ago that they will have Narain Karthikeyan as their full season driver in 2011 but it seems that there is no chance that Karun Chandhok will race for another season for HRT.
The team has not revealed its second driver for the 2011 season yet but it is believed that it is either going to be Christian Klien or Sakon Yamamoto most likely.
It is expected that HRT will use its 2010 car until then and for the first three pre-season test sessions which are expected to take place in Valencia, Jerez and Barcelona.
“At the moment there are approximately 40 designers finalising the first spec, under the leadership of Geoff Willis as technical director and Paul White as chief designer,” added Kolles.
The main purpose of these pre-season test sessions is to ensure that Pirelli delivers the best possible tyre compounds for the upcoming season.
Narain Karthikeyan has not competed in Formula 1 since 2005 when he used to be a part of Jordan but he was unable to give a good performance statistically as a result of which none of the teams decided to sign him.
“Let's see. The second driver has not been decided yet because we have to make sure we are making the best choice,” said the team principal.
