HRT denies Caterham is developing their car for 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team have denied reports that Caterham Technology and Innovation is designing their 2012 car.
HRT though has come out and denied any such reports. It cleared the rumours by stating that it is designing its own car and are hoping to get the F112 ready for the pre-season testing.
Their statement read as, “After the recent information appearing lately in the media, HRT F1 Team is obliged to deny that Caterham Technology and Innovation, a subsidiary company of Caterham F1, will be in charge of the design and fabrication of the F112's
monocoque.
Contrary to what has been published, the development of the car that HRT F1 Team will compete with in next year's Formula 1 World Championship is being carried out at the team's technical office in Munich by a team of designers under the technical supervision
of Jacky Eeckelaert and chief aerodynamicist Stephan Chosse.”
HRT had a tumultuous 2011 season and would be looking to improve on their dismal performance in the next 2012 season. The Cosworth engines they have been using so far have not been fruitful for their car. Williams are another team that used the Cosworth
engines and after a poor showing in the 2011 season have decided to go with Renault engines for 2012.
HRT were not able to score any points during the 2011 season and found itself at the bottom of the table above only to Virgin who are also using Cosworth engines.
Caterham Technology and Innovation is part of the Caterham Group was reported to be building the car for HRT when it did not name a supplier for its engine in the FIA list. Speed Week sports magazine reported that the car was being built by Caterham and
that HRT will now be using Renault engines.
It would still be interesting to see how much they have improved with the development of their 2012 car. It is good for the competitiveness of the sport that they can at least put up a fight and make it hard for other teams to get a better standing in the
constructors’ championship.
