HRT driver Narain Karthikeyan looking to improve qualifying – Formula 1 news
Narain Karthikeyan has said that his qualifying performances are an area that he is looking to improve for the remainder of the season.
The Indian said that he understands that the current season is very competitive and little things amount to a lot and he is eager to look into every detail in order to do better for himself and the team.
He highlighted that qualifying is a very important in the season and he will look to improve as much as he can for the qualifying so that he can perform better on the race days. The HRT driver has been racing at the back of the grid and is once again struggling
at the back of the grid in the drivers’ standings as well.
He can at least work hard enough to compete with his teammate Pedro de la Rosa as it is very hard for him to compete with other teams on the grid with a less than mediocre HRT machinery. He has not been able to outqualify him once in the current season and
that is something he will need to work on.
He admitted that he has to learn more from his mistakes and to better in the season.
“I think that my race performance has been very strong, with my 15th place in Monaco standing out, but in qualifying I've been a bit weaker,” Karthikeyan said. “Right now I'm about three tenths behind Pedro and that's something I have to improve in this
second half, no doubt about it. The tyres have been quite difficult to get used to and Pedro has a lot of experience with Pirelli and McLaren. He's a very good driver who hardly makes mistakes and I must learn from him to improve.”
He added that he knew that the car would be pretty basic for the season but he was surprised to know how reliable the car has been and thinks that the car has potential to improve. He said that the whole team has gelled really well and the combination of
people at HRT is great.
It will be interesting to see how the Indian performs once he returns after the summer break to resume the Formula 1 season. The coming race after the break is the Belgian Grand Prix.
