HRT driver Vitantonio Liuzzi expecting better performance after car upgrades – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team driver Tonio Liuzzi has said that he is hoping for a better performance at the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix after the team applies new upgrades to their cars.
He believes that there is plenty more to come in the near future as the team was unable to apply some upgrades which were intended for the recently held Chinese Grand Prix.
The team is improving its performance with every race. At the Chinese Grand prix, both of HRT drivers were able to finish for their team. Liuzzi finished 22nd, 17.781 seconds adrift of Virgin Racing Team driver Timo Glock while his teammate Narain
Karthikeyan finished behind him in 23rd place.
“We probably could have been even closer to Virgin but we couldn't use some of the updates we brought to the race because of material problems. We used a new engine cover exit and some improvements on the brakes and other bits and pieces, but they mainly
improved reliability and we couldn't use the bits that would have given us the biggest advantage,” Liuzzi told the media.
He added that the team has some new rear wing endplates as a part of their upgrade package for the upcoming race.
Liuzzi is confident about HRT’s chances and the team’s ability to provide him with the best package before the European races of the 2011 Formula 1 calendar begin.
“The pieces we did use amounted to a little improvement, but in Turkey we are expecting quite a significant step forward,” he said.
Since the team is working with people like Geoff Willis for the development process of their car, Liuzzi is positive about the team’s upcoming upgrades.
After three races of the 2011 season, HRT have so far failed to pick up any points and sit at the bottom of the constructors’ championship.
It will be interesting to see how the team performs at the upcoming Turkish Grand Prix which is expected to take place in three weeks time.
