HRT driver Vitantonio Liuzzi says it is easy to lose the plot at Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team driver Vitantonio Liuzzi says it just takes a few seconds at the Monaco Grand Prix to lose the plot as 80 percent of the overtaking manoeuvres fail.
Liuzzi finished in 16th place in a dramatic Monaco Grand Prix this past weekend but it was an entertaining race in the end as Sebastian Vettel finished just inches ahead of Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari.
However, it seems that the 2011 Formula 1 season is already in Sebastian Vettel’s hands as he has secured 5 wins in just 6 races up until now and has 143 points to his name in the drivers’ standings.
Nevertheless, Tonio stated that HRT struggled to score some good results during the Thursday practice sessions and Saturday’s qualifying as a result of which the weekend was a bit of a nightmare with all of the technical issues.
“The car was shaking a lot and bouncing a lot, and on a street circuit like Monaco we were struggling massively,” he said.
Other than that, he added that the weekend was quite unpredictable and dramatic with a handful of accidents. Tonio believes that the Pirelli tyres played a huge role in the race.
“The tyres were reacting differently compared to last year's Bridgestones, the balance of the car was difficult to find and the tarmac had got a bit worse this year. These problems are exacerbated for a small team like us because we don't have as much downforce
on the car and it's not as pinned to the ground,” said the HRT driver.
Since it is believed that the Monte Carlo circuit might go through some changes next year, Liuzzi stated that the organisers should keep the feel of the track. They should make sure that the changes do not backfire or make the race less exhilarating in any
way, since the Monaco GP is one of the most awaited circuits in the Formula 1 calendar.
The upcoming race is scheduled to take place in Canada in two weeks’ time and it is going to be interesting to see what Ferrari and McLaren do this time to catch up with the pace of the RB7.
