HRT looking for drivers to partner Pedro de La Rosa – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team is on the lookout for a second driver to partner Pedro de La Rosa.
HRT have not had an impressive time in Formula 1 since their debut in 2010. Although there has been a lot of talk of improvement within the team but the results are not there.
For the 2011 season, HRT was not able to score any points and finished at the bottom of the table above only Virgin also known as Marussia effective from the 2012 season. It is being assumed that HRT will be looking for a pay driver to partner de la Rosa.
However, Jacky Eeckelaert has said that HRT are looking for a young driver with a lot of potential.
HRT are looking for a Spanish driver to give the team a more Spanish identity. Technical director Eeckelaert has ended quite a few speculations over the HRT race seat potentials.
First the speculations grew for Jaime Alguersuari as he was axed from Toro Rosso but Eeckelaert said that he does not think that Alguersuari would be the best fit for HRT.
Dani Clos was another name linked to the race seat but Eeckelaert brushed aside his chances as well.
“I don't think it's in the interests of the team to have a second Spanish driver,” Eeckelaert said. “The same goes for the drivers approaching retirement.”
“We hope to continue our battle at the back of the pack with Virgin (Marussia). It is difficult to aim higher. The Dallara chassis we used in our first two seasons was clearly not good enough. So in our German workshop we have built our own HRT to be powered
by the Cosworth V8. We started fresh in September, later than the others, and so we cannot have fantasies,” he added.
However, he also added that because the owner decided to move the team to Spain and give it a more Spanish look it has affected the progress of the team as the team was really gelling together well. The new additions to the Virgin team will need some time
to gel again although slowly but surely everything will be in order soon.
