HRT to give Karun Chandhok some tough time in court
With every passing day, the rift between Karun Chandhok and his former team, HRT is getting worse. According to a recent report, the team is now considering taking the driver to court for violation of his contractual obligations.
The HRT team boss, Colin Kolles talked to the media earlier today revealing that the driver has breached the contract signed with the team; hence the team now wants to take the matter to the court. He stated that the driver was dropped from the Hispania squad last year, after the first ten races "because he did not fulfil his contractual obligations."
As per sources, at the time of the contract the driver vowed to bring huge sponsorship to the team. On the contrary, as the season unwrapped, he was not able to keep his words. It was also reported that he was originally dropped from the team for only a race or two, with the promise that he will be taken back as soon as he brings money. However, in the remaining season the Indian driver failed to get a sponsor; thus stayed away from the driving seat.
While talking about the issue Kolles insisted, "When he signed an agreement with us for the 2010 season, Karun made a lot of promises on paper. But he failed to fulfil his obligations. We waited for some time, but we didn't have any other choice than to suspend him at the German Grand Prix."
It was also disclosed that at the start of his 2010 campaign, Chandhok's backers promised to pay around €8 million. However, nothing more than €2 million were paid by the driver’s sponsors last year.
He further explained saying, "However, we did everything diplomatically. We didn't make it public. Since then, Karun was never in the team's radar… We were planning to do certain upgrades on the car but everything got disturbed."
On the contrary, Chandhok said earlier this week that his relationship with the team is still going smooth and healthy. He also declared that the team has offered him a seat for the upcoming season but he wants to drive in a more competitive car that can help him get some points also. However, no such claim has been made by the team management yet.
Currently HRT has signed another Indian driver, Narain Karthikeyan, who has brought TATA, the leading car manufacturer company of India as his sponsor. Whether Karun will be joining his compatriot or not, is yet to seen by the fans.
