HRT to use Williams KERS units and extends their gearbox-supply beyond 2012 – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team have extended their deal with Williams to use their KERS units in 2012 that will include the existing gearbox-supply deal as well.
HRT will be provided with the KERS power boost for the first time in its two-year history and looks to extend its technical coalition with them.
Team boss Colin Kolles is hoping the extended agreement will do a good job with enhancing their performance for the 2012 season.
“In these past two years we have established a fruitful collaboration with Williams F1 and are pleased to continue having them play an important role in the development of our team,” Kolles said.
He also mentioned that the past two years have been very fruitful for both Williams and HRT and he is very excited at the prospect of continuing that relationship and making it even stronger. He further added that his team has gained a lot of experience
technically from the collaboration and is now reaping benefits in getting the latest technology in gearboxes and having KERS for next year, which is a big step forward in the right direction for the team.
“We have grown as a team with Williams F1's support and we are pleased to continue counting on them in the future, given their trajectory, prestige and renowned experience in Formula One,” he further added.
Williams CEO Alex Burns added, “I am delighted that we are extending our agreement with HRT, in both its scope and duration.”
Burns added that they have enjoyed a good professional working relationship with HRT in the current year, and are delighted to have that relationship move forward into 2012 and further. Their selection of Williams Formula 1 gearbox and KERS technology for
their car is a credit to Williams F1 and all the staff involved.
HRT stands at 9th in the current constructors’ championship and with only 2 races left in the season, they area likely to stay around that position. They would definitely be looking to improve on that standing going into next year, and this is a big step
forward for them in the right direction.
The team also confirmed Jacky Eeckelaert and Stephane Chosse who is an expert aerodynamicist, to fill the void left by the now former technical director Geoff Willis, who left earlier this year.
It is going to be interesting to see how the team performs next year given the effort they have put in to make their team a better unit.
