HRT was strongest amongst newcomers, claims team boss Colin Kolles
The boss of the Hispania Racing Team (HRT) Colin Kolles has blamed the drivers for the team's poor show in 2010. He believes that the team was much better than the results suggest, and HRT would have had better results if the team had some experience in
the driver’s line-up. HRT started the season with two new drivers Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna.
The Spanish car ended up 11th in the 2010 Formula One season, just ahead of Virgin Racing who had the least competitive car amongst all the other teams.
The Brazilian driver Senna contested most of the season with HRT, and apart from him some experienced drivers such as Sakon Yamamoto and Christian Klein also raced for HRT.
Kolles claimed in an interview that HRT was the best of all the debutant teams on the grid. He said, “It was a difficult year but we were the most reliable new team. I think the only reason why we did not finish tenth is that teams like Lotus and Virgin
had more experienced drivers during the whole season. I think that in testing we showed quite a good performance in relation to the other new teams.”
There is a doubt over the future of HRT especially after the split with 2011 partner Toyota, leaving very little time to prepare a competitive car for next season.
There were also some reports that HRT was in talks with Mark Preston’s Formtech Company. The Australian, Mark has denied any talks with HRT regarding any contracts. Preston was a former technical director for Super Aguri.
Kolles is confident that HRT will be good in the coming season, and the team is working hard on developing a competitive car for the 2011 season. He stated that, “We are working to have a better package than last year. Obviously this depends on a lot of
factors but we are working to achieve our goals.”
HRT has limited resources and the team has to realise the fact that they cannot compete with the top runners or the midfield runners for next season. The team should look to improve the car, and close the gap between the teams ahead of them, and this way
they can eventually catch up with all the other teams in the furure.
