HRT's Sakon Yamamoto replaced by Christian Klien for the Brazilian Grand Prix
HRT announced that Sakon Yamamoto would be replaced by their reserve driver Christian Klien for the Brazilian Grand Prix. Sakon Yamamoto has not been able to score a single point but it seems that he has the potential to drive
aggressively whenever it’s required.
Yamamoto joined team Super Aguri back in 2006 and raced in 7 Formula 1 Grands Prix. He was not able to score a single point but returned with Spyker Ferrari the following year to race for another 7 races. After 2 years away from
the sport, Sakon returned to Formula 1 as HRT signed him for the 2010 season but he struggled once again to perform consistently and therefore the team preferred Christian Klien, the reserve driver for HRT, over Sakon Yamamoto.
The Japanese driver scored some decent results for his team before he came down with food poisoning and had to miss the Singapore Grand Prix; however, the young driver came back at the Japanese Grand Prix. According to some reports,
Sakon’s sponsors have been paying $450,000 a race but due to his lack of performance at the last two races, the team decided it would be better to give the Japanese driver a break. Yamamoto finished behind his teammate Bruno Senna in the past two races and
since the Brazilian Grand Prix is Bruno’s home Grand Prix, the team is aware how much this race means to Senna, therefore he will hold on to his drive this weekend.
“I am excited to come to Brazil where I already raced two times, the last time in 2005, and where I could achieve good results. The circuit is quite challenging and we are racing anti-clockwise which is going to be tough for the
neck,” Klien said.
Christian Klien has been struggling in the sport since he joined with Jaguar back in 2004 before joining Red Bull for the 2005 and 2006 as a full-time driver. The Austrian driver was unable to score good results but he has a chance
once again with HRT. This is the best chance of proving himself and Klien should not waste this opportunity if he wants to secure his future in the sport.
“There are many slow corners and the long straight at the start-finish-line where high speeds are possible. I am very happy to get a second opportunity to do another grand prix here after Singapore and I hope that we are doing
a good weekend with positive results,” he added.
Colin Kolles, the team boss of HRT, encouraged both of his drivers. He believes that it is going to be an interesting race for the team as Bruno will be racing in Interlagos for the first time. It should be an interesting race
as both of the drivers are more determined than ever to score a good result for their team.
HRT is one of the three new teams in the sport and has been struggling vitally. However, the team secured its spot for the 2011 season and hopes to secure the best possible results in the final 2 races.
“I'm really looking forward to the Brazilian GP and it is going to be my first time competing at home. I haven't driven with a proper race car in Interlagos, but I know the circuit by heart and it's very challenging,” said Bruno.
Interlagos is a very unique circuit as it has a bumpy surface and offers a mixture of speed and technical driving at the same time.
The team is yet to announce their drivers’ list for the final race at Abu Dhabi. The Brazilian Grand Prix is going to be a very special race for Bruno Senna as this will be his very first home race.
