HRT’s Team Principal vows to end the season at no less than 10th place
This season has been a really tough one for HRT. Well, it had to be... the team had its car finalized only a week before the start of their first race of 2010 season.
It was already clear to the team that their debut season won’t be that easy for them but there had been times when they faced troubles graver than they had actually anticipated. Despite all odds, it was the team’s high spirit that not only helped them in going on but also made them improve, though slowly yet steadily.
Now, with the biggest chunk of the season already gone, the team principal Colin Kolles talked about his experience and also plans for the future. Although, Kolles in an interview accepted the fact that the season was flooded with troubles and tough times, yet at the end of the day, he looks back with satisfaction over his team’s progress so far.
He said, “Yes, the team is becoming more and more one unit and we are making progress.” He looked thrilled to announce that his team was also satisfied with the performance of their driver, Sakon Yamamoto, who signed in as a test driver and drove in place of Bruno Senna at the British Grand Prix. Yamamoto took Karun Chandhok’s place in last three races. He said that the team was planning to keep the Japanese driver with them for the upcoming season as well.
Regarding the last race in Belgium, he said that both team drivers stamped their best qualifying results. “Sakon’s lap times were at the same level as Kovalainen's and Glock's during the race. I think there is no reason to make any changes so far.” He stated. Kolles expressed optimism for the next season also despite the lack of sponsors. The HRT car hasn’t been seen with much sponsor logos during the last few races but the team principal was hopeful of getting as much sponsorship as possible for 2011.
He was also asked about the HRT crew and how well the factory had been able to bring out a good car, for which he replied, “I am very proud because we cannot say that we had an optimal pre-season preparation, but I think they are doing a fantastic job.” He termed Monza as a special race not only for him but for everyone. He further added that so far they had been quite competitive on the circuits where high down-force levels were not required. But, with Monza being the highest top speed track, the team is looking forward for a great performance there.
He concluded by saying that the HRT team would continue pushing hard till the end of this season as they are determined to wrap up at least at the 10th position in Constructors’ Championship.
