HSBC Champions; Francesco Molinari once again takes the lead in the second round
The second round of the HSBC Champions wrapped up in Sheshan International Golf Club, Shanghai with Francesco Molinari in the lead. The Italian once again stood consistent and firm on the first spot with a score of 9-under-par. He was chased by the Englishman,
Lee Westwood.
The first round leader took a strong step on the par-71 course in pleasant weather conditions. However, he could only manage to remain at par to keep up with his lead. The real drama was expected from Westwood, but the Ryder Cup winner failed to fulfil the
expectations and even after the second round, he was seen at the second spot on the leader board.
A stroke behind was Jaco Van Zyl. The player picked up one eagle and seven birdies against three bogeys to settle at 6-under-par. He was joined by Richie Ramsay and PGA Grand Slam winner, Ernie Els. The Champion of the Champions (Ernie Els) carded eight
birdies to surge into the third spot from 32nd. A stroke behind was the player who got kicked out of the USPGA championship for grounding his clubs; Luke Donald who stood on the safe side with only three birdies and one bogey. Below him were Noh
Seung-Yul and Ross Fisher. The order of merit leader, Noh gave a terrible performance and could only manage to par the course. The 19-year-old picked up three birdies, but dropped equal shots to surrender to the toughest course of Asia.
Tiger Woods who is eyeing a victory at the last event of the season failed to make a mark. The player teed off in white and pink striped polo shirt from the front nine to pick up three birdies, but owing to his miscalculated putting Tiger missed two shots.
On his way to the back nine, former world number one picked two more birdies, but gave away the points earned through three bogeys.
YE Yang was seen struggling on the back nine in a red polo shirt. The player carded three bogeys in the closing holes along with a double- bogey. The plus two score was posted on the scorecard when Yang took the tee shot at par-3 17th and the
ball rolled into the sand hazard. Although, Yang managed to sand wedge the ball and reached the green, but he could not close the second round with a par.
Francesco Molinari has stepped into the second round as a leader and he is being chased by Lee Westwood.
