HSBC Champions – Ian Poulter is ready to capitalize on his experience at the Mission Hills Golf Club
Ian Poulter is set to utilize his team experience at the Mission Hills Golf Club, when he tees off at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
Poulter has represented the Great Britain a number of times in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup, partnered with Ross Fisher and Justin Rose twice.
This week, he will be competing for the second World Golf Championship title of his career. In 2010, he won the Accenture Match Play Championship as the first WGC victory of his career.
Talking to the reporters in a pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, he stated that his experience on the venue course will provide him an advantage over his competitors in the field this week.
Moreover, he also showed his expectations of facing strong competition in China, as a number of big names have confirmed to participate in the fourth and the last WGC event of the season.
According to him, it will be a low scoring tournament, especially when 13 of the top-20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings will compete for the US$7 million prize purse.
“I’ve played here a number of times in World Cup format,” he said. “I think the course is one which opens itself up to quite a few birdies, five par fives, it's going to be an exciting week to play in a stroke-play event as opposed to knowing the course
as a foursomes and a fourball course”.
He added, “I think the scores are going to be pretty low and you're going to have to play well. It's a strong field, a lot of guys in decent form, so expecting to score low”.
The 36-year-old has recorded some decent finishes this season and was the hero of this year’s Ryder Cup – he won each of the four matches he played in the biennial event.
However, he still has to record an individual victory this season, which he plans to register this week in the only WGC tournament that is held outside the United States.
“I'm fairly motivated to put a ‘W’ on the board before the end of the year,” he said.
