HSBC Championship: The Champions paired

The WGC-HSBC Champions is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China from November 4th till the 7th. With eight of the top ten ranked players competing, this event will put forward the strongest field in the tournament’s history. The HSBC Champions
is the last of the four World Golf Championships and takes place over the course of four days.
With so much talk about this major event, the pairings of the rounds are finally revealed. The defending champion, Phil Mickelson, will be paired with the new World Number one, Lee Westwood. Both Mickelson and Lefty will tee off on the Sheshan golf course
accompanied by Ye Yang. Yang is Asia’s first Major winner because of his victory at the US PGA Championship last year.
A lot of people thought it would be Phil Mickelson who would replace Tiger Woods as world Number one. That was a pretty obvious notion to assume seeing that Mickelson missed out in twelve opportunities to become World Number One.  Apparently, things didn’t
quite go lefty’s way and Lee Westwood appeared as the new World Number one on Monday, 1st November.
Now from Number 2, Mickelson has dropped to Number four and is behind Westwood, Woods and Martin Kaymer. Kaymer is also a pretty good upcoming star seeing how he won the US PGA Championship and just recently the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Martin
was very near to toppling Wood’s five year reign as well. If he had won or come second in the Andalucía Masters last weekend, he would be number one right now. Even though he couldn’t be number one, Kaymer is looking forward to China this weekend. He will
be paired with Hunter Mahan and Paul Casey.
Hunter Mahan was really disappointed after the Ryder Cup since his team lost. Breaking down during a press conference, Mahan showed how much the loss affected him. Now a month later, he is ready to compete and show his best game to the world.
Where Kaymer was a disappointment in Spain, Graeme McDowell shined in Sotogrande and won his third title of the year. Winning the Wales Open and the U.S Open in June, and scoring the final point for the winning European team in the Ryder Cup, McDowell is
having a great year. For the weekend, the Northern Irishman will be paired with Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.
Not only are famous golf personalities playing in the HSBC, but they are playing after quite a while of resting. Following the Ryder Cup, it appeared as if the Tiger went back to its cave to regain some energy for his next conquest. That’s correct. Tiger
Woods, who just recently was dethroned from his top position, will be playing in individual competitive golf after a decent amount of rest. Woods, who isn’t World Number One anymore, has now shifted his attention to breaking Jack Nicklaus’s major record. Having
won 14 majors, Tiger is four behind Jack and has stated that bettering the target was his ultimate goal.
The European star Luke Donald really struggled in Malaysia this weekend as he tried to stay on top of the leader board. He went into the third round sharing a lead with Martin Laird and Brian Davis. Even though all the players tried their best in the CIMB
Asia Pacific Classic, the win was taken by Ben Crane. Donald is paired with Miguel Angel Jimenez and Tim Clark. As for other notable pairs, Padraig Harrington is paired with Louis Oosthuizen and Yuta Ikeda. It would truly be a delight to see all the players
playing on the Lush greenery, trickling streams and fast greens.
The Sheshan International golf club is breath taking with holes 16 and 17 being especially attractive. The excitement, the champions and the beauty all combined promises to give a delightful four day event for all the golf fans.
