HSBC Women's Champions: Singaporean Koh Sock determined to atone for first-round lapses
Singapore’s Koh Sock could not amaze the spectators in the first round of HSBC Women’s Champions on Thursday, as she recorded an unimpressive 82.
The event at Tanah Merah Country Club, Singapore, is being considered as one of the most important for Koh.
Although she could not grab attention on the course, she did not look disappointed with her less-than-average performance.
The Singaporean star is showing her skills among some of the prominent names in women’s golf, as the roster for the event is also featuring the current world number one Yani Tseng.
The HSBC Women’s Champions is one of the most competitive events on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, as it is offering a hefty purse of $1.4 million. The big prize money is keeping the players motivated.
Carding a 10-over 82 was not impressive, as Koh said that she was looking forward to bouncing back in the next 3 rounds.
She said that she will try to atone for the lapses she made in the first round, but was keen to point out that she was unfazed by the low score.
The lone Singaporean appeared to be in high spirits when she set foot on the course. Although she had a number of good chances to make birdies, she faltered and could not judge her putting.
She acknowledged that her putting was the real reason why she missed too many chances. She said that she has been practising putting but there is no room for complacency. She said that she plans to polish on her swing as well.
When asked what was on her mind while she was missing opportunities, she said that she could not hold her nerve and eventually messed up her scorecard.
"I was really nervous when I started with a bogey and everything kept adding up. You want to stop the bogey, but yet you try too hard. I was being overly offensive," Koh said.
She said that she is training hard under the guidance of her coach. "My coach is here, and that will help a bit ... I'm actually hitting the ball quite good, and if I make some putts tomorrow".
