HSBC Women's Champions to feature a strong field
HSBC Women’s Champions is going to be played this week at Tanah Merah Country Club, with a number of strong contenders set to give a tough time to their rivals.
The 63-player field will feature some of the big names in women’s golf. The tournament is offering a purse of $1.4 million and it is expected that there are going to be major breakthroughs this week.
First off, defending champion Karrie Webb has also committed to participate in the tournament. Webb was outstanding in the tournament last season, as she recorded a one-stroke triumph against Chie Arimura of Japan.
Analysts have said that Webb appears to be in high spirits these days, as she knows that defending the title is more important than anything else.
Webb expressed her view about the tournament this week, saying she will try to pile up massive scores in the early rounds.
She said that she is impatiently waiting for the first day, as she wants to repeat what she did last year at Singapore.
Webb is making sure that she is in perfect form, as she is aware that the field is awash with players known to put up a tough fight.
“I am really looking forward to coming back to Singapore and playing in the HSBC Women's Champions," Webb said and added that she has been practicing very hard to make certain she is in a fit state to face her rivals.
Another tough contender in the field is Yani Tseng. Tseng is being considered a hot favourite to win the HSBC Women’s Champions.
Tseng currently ranks 1st in the world golf rankings and appears to be in her best form.
The Thai star who has racked up a number of prestigious title on the LPGA and other Tours as well, recently won the Honda LPGA Thailand.
Tseng said that she is pumped up after her success and this is what is keeping her motivated. She added that she will try to carve out a victory thanks to her amazing putting skills.
"After winning four LPGA events in a row and arriving in Singapore straight after the Thailand event last year, I went into the tournament with high hopes,” Tseng said.
