HSBC Women’s Champions 2013 to be held in Sentosa Island
Sentosa Island, one of the many islands of Singapore will be hosting the 2013 version of the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament. The lucrative tournament offers prize money worth US$ 1.4 million. This amount attracts top golfers from all over the world.
Sentosa Island will make history by hosting the tournament for the first time on the fairways of the Sentosa Golf Club.
A few weeks ago, HSBC officials announced that the bank will be the title sponsor for the tournament till 2015.
The dates were released for the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament. It will start from the 28th of February and end on the 3rd of March.
HSBC has been hosting the tournament in Singapore for the past six years. The tournament which takes place on the island resort of Singapore is likely to attract a large number of fans across the globe.
The golf tournament is one of the biggest sporting events in Singapore. It provides an excellent platform for young players in the country to exhibit their talent.
The HSBC Women’s Champions tournament is considered to be one of the high profiled tournaments of the region. It is also known as “Asia’s Major”.  
The criteria to qualify for the tournament is very strict and only the players who perform up to the required standards get the chance to participate in the prestigious tournament.
Angela Stanford won the previous version of the tournament and bagged a cheque of US$ 210,000, the American golf professional. Stanford exhibited an excellent performance throughout the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament to claim the title.
The American faced a stiff challenge from the Korean teenager, Jenny Shin. Shin was neck to neck till the last hole with the eventual winner of the tournament.
Other golfers on the pursuit for glory were the world number 2, Na Yeon Choi and the professional golfer from mainland China, Shanshan Feng.
The HSBC Women’s Champions has seen a number of Asian golfers come to the limelight. Women’s golf is dominated by the Asian golfers and the top hundred players in the Order of Merit include sixty golfers from Asia.
