HSG?? Is really necessary?

Is really necessary to get a hsg test when TTC?? lets say if you have PCOS and your using clomid, Do you need to get a HSG?? Im TTC and I would like to know if I need to get this test done.

actually it is necessary for the HSG, but your doctor should know best.  It is to look to see if your tubes are open and if there are other abnormalities in the uterus.  If you are taking clomid and your tubes are blocked, the clomid will do you no good.  So it can help save you wasted efforts if they catch something, and if they don't it just gives you a lil piece of mind that your insides look okay.  I have pcos too, but I had to get an SHG (which is like the HSG, but they use saline instead of dye).  Good Luck and Best wishes!!  :o)

Yes it is necessary...they are checking for blockages in your tubes.  Sometimes if its a minor blockage, the dye can push it out.

An HSG just rules out a complete tubal blockage.  If there is a blockage, the clomid won't help at all, and surgery or IVF would be required.  I had the test two years ago, and it wasn't nearly as bad as people say!  I read about it on the internet and got myself scared to death, and was pleasantly surprised when it was no big deal.  I did end up having completely blocked tubes, but after IVF I now have the world's most gorgeous baby girl.  I'd say, do the HSG.  Once they figure out what's wrong they can try to help.  Good luck!

Your doctor should be the one to tell you if this test is necessary for you or not.  I personally would want to have the test just to be reassured that the tubes aren't blocked and your uterus is shaped normally.  I did this test and it was not big deal, I had no pain or discomfort, aside from the awkward position on the x-ray table.  Also, my Doctor told me that just having the test done increases your chances of getting pregnant, which I did get pregnant in that same cycle, and my daughter in now 13 month old.  Good Luck.
