  1. Powered subwoofers start at 10" and go up from there.

10" should be sufficient for most room sizes.  There are larger subwoofers, of course, but I'm guessing a good 10" woofer should be plenty for you.

A larger sub of course would give you more oomph, but why spend the money if a smaller sub is just as good.

  2. Hi,

I would recommend that you get a powered subwoofer. All powered subwoofers has got a volume control at the back and even a vibration control. Wattage is the physics terms in audio electronics for volume. As you increase the power, you increase the volume. Any powered subwoofer has got enough power to resonate your house's windows and cooking pots.

    Good luck!

  3. 15" Klipsch

guaranteed to shake the house and rattle your windows

  4. Take a look at the Hsu Research powered subwoofers.  You will definitely feel the bass power with this brand.  Others to consider are the SVS models and browse Parts Express and you will not be disappointed.

  5. Ok - laws of physics:

The larger the driver - the lower the bass.

BASS needs to move a lot of air.  This means a small driver with a lot of power to move out/stop/come back.  Or a large driver with less power.

Two really good internet brands of subwoofers are from SVS and HSU Research.  I have a cylinder series (15 inch driver and 300 watts) and it has rattled glasses in the next room with smooth, powerful bass.

Or - order a Dayton Audio kit from www.partsexpress.com and put it together and save about half off a retail unit.

Dont forget to corner-load the woofer (put it in the corner of the 2 longest un-broken walls) to get the lowest frequency enhancement.

  6. Sunfire Signature.

    12 inch with a 12 inch radiator

    2700 watts

Guaranteed Deepest cleanest bass down to 12 hertz

Sikorsky bought a couple of these for their flight simulators because they were the only sub that can accurately represent the sound a black hawk helicopter makes while landing.

better than the big subs because it can stop the woofer much quicker than trying to stop the mass of a 15" woofer.
