HTC-Highroad Women take time trial victory in Giro della Toscana 2011 – Cycling Update
The HTC-Highroad Women showed their tremendous efforts and managed to take a first place in Giro della Toscana Femminile 2011 on Tuesday, September 13. The race started and ended in Viareggio.
HTC-Highroad led by defending champion Judith Arndt, took a total of 6 minutes and 27 seconds to cover the distance of 5.5 kilometres.
After winning the stage, HTC-Highroad sport director Ronny Lauke said, "It was a flat circuit today, A very simple course that came down to setting as strong of a pace as we could and maintaining it until the end."
He further added, "Our plan was to accelerate hard at the start and keep pace steady. We had Judith [Arndt], Ina [Teutenberg] and Charlotte [Becker] pulling on the long stretches and our younger riders leading out the short sections."
The Girls-Fassa Bortolo team was the first squad who started the race and completing the trial distance in 6 minutes and 54 seconds as they easily beat the Russian team with a time of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
The HTC Team was the last through and showed their skills as they powered to beat the Russian Federation team by 13 seconds. The Gauss Team was in third place with a difference of 24 seconds ahead of SC MCipollini Giambenini and Australia.
Australia Garmin-Cervelo, Top Girls Fassa Bortolo and Lotto Honda Team were in sixth, seventh and eighth place respectively.
Judith Arndt took the overall standing of the time trial with a timing of 6 minutes and 27 seconds while Ina Teutenberg was in runner-up spot with the same timing as Arndt.
Recently, Arndt took second place at Grand Prix Elsy Jacobs. She also took first place in La Coupe du Monde Cycliste and second place in Tour de l’Aude Cycliste Feminin.
Amanda Miller was in third place while Charlotte Becker finished sixth spot with a difference of 3 seconds and Svetlana Bubnenkova was in seventh place with a difference of 13 seconds in 2008.
The next stage will start in Porcari and end in Altopascio as all the riders will cover the distance of 117.1 kilometres.
